Talking: Tiffany’s Adds Bling to Wall Street

November 5, 2007 · Filed Under Other

Now Audrey Hepburn can have breakfast on Wall Street.

Tiffany & Co. opened their second Manhattan store downtown yesterday to much fanfare. It’s only the second to open in the city, joining the flagship Fifth Avenue spot, famous for being featured in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”

“Downtown is undergoing a renaissance and we wanted to be part of the revitalization. With all the fabulous real estate, we wanted to be part of it,” said Tiffany’s Executive Vice President, Beth Owen Canavan. “And Wall Street has a significant, powerful meaning so we expect that a lot of women and men that have women in their lives will come in.”

At 11,000 square feet, including two floors, the Wall Street location is smaller than the flagship store, which is 40,000 square feet, but features all the same jewelry.

“Our flagship store is the most important in the world and always will be, but this one is unique in its own way,” Canavan said.

The downtown Tiffany’s features striking Ingo Maurer light sculptures with dangling crystals hanging from the ceiling, a marble staircase, and the familiar robin’s egg blue gift boxes piled near the entrance.

The store was flooded with shoppers yesterday, most who were on a quick break from work to check out the baubles.

“I’m just looking right now, at engagement rings, maybe a tennis bracelet,” said Stacey Womble, a Deutsche Bank employee who was fingering a $131,000 diamond ring.

Security guards stood by as staff showed off the store’s most expensive item - a $3.5 million diamond drop pendant.

The least expensive is a sterling silver Wall Street charm.
