Melted down pop tart Britney Spears from a split-Los Angeles psych station Saturday after a surprise visit by celebrities shrink Dr. Phil
The pop star left patients Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after an hourlong chat with Phil McGraw, the sources said was summoned to the hospital by Spears’ desperate relatives.
“My meeting with Britney and some of their family members this morning in her room at the Cedars makes me more convinced than ever that they are in dire need of medical and psychological intervention. I am very worried for them,” McGraw said in a statement “Entertainment Tonight”.
By the time he arrived, the troubled 26-year-old starlet had already been officially released from the hospital and was in her room packing, McGraw said. After her heart-to-heart, the TV shrink accompanied Spears from the hospital and into a waiting car.
The platinum-selling singer was strapped to a guerney, wheeled into the hospital psych station and suicide hours a day earlier after refusing to her two sons, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, on their ex - Bodyguards husband for a visit. She held police at bay for three hours, lock in a bedroom with Jayden.
A person in the house at the time told the Chicago Sun-Times that Spears was drinking and popping prescription meds before its collapse, and that the son Jayden was inconsolable. “He started crying … and continues to cry for just about the whole time she was there. You have nothing to reassure him,” said the employee Spears.
Spears was expected to be at the hospital for 72 hours, but in the end spending a little more than one day in the ward. Before departure, they terrorized the hospital staff, they yell to their TMZ.com reported. They pulled out an IV and refused to follow orders to lie or sit still.
McGraw is filming a special about tomorrow Spears’ spiral into a personal hell. If he can be on the show, provisionally scheduled to air two days later, he could score big in the ratings.
His attempts to stage an intervention for Spears comes several months. He had unsuccessfully to reach Spears’ mother Lynne, to help sooner, according to a source close to the doc.
But several sources into question his motives.
“This is exactly Britney’s anger,” said one source who knows the shrinking personally. “Does a troubled young woman who is already fodder for the media need a TV psychologist descending on her with camera teams? Are there other psychotherapists in America, you can help without a show from her?”
The intervention comes as Spears’ public dive reached new lows. When she was out of their Studio City home, their feelings were careening between laughter and hysteria.
Officials in the hospital have refused, on her condition, cited the privacy of the patient. But sources told the newspaper “Daily News” that two patients are in each room at the psych station, which will be potluck meals and patients have their own beds, and make their own clothes.
As McGraw and his troubled charge skiddadled hidden from the hospital, Spears’ mother was spotted in Louisiana to visit the grave of their sister, Sandra Bridges, 59, died of breast cancer last January.
Spears’ life was rapidly unraveling since December 2006 divorce from Kevin Federline. They lost primary custody of their sons in October visit, and all rights immediately after their fit on Thursday night.
Her family was shaken again when it revealed last month that their child’s sister, 16-year-old Nickelodeon star Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant.
